Welcome to Year 1/2 Class Page

Our class is one big family, we love each other and look after each other just as Jesus would like us to; we treat each other as we would like to be treated. We are loving and caring towards each other and our main rule in our class is kindness.

Our Gospel Value

Our class Gospel value is ‘Peace’ and it’s important to us that we keep the peace with each other and only want peace in the world.

Our Class Charity

Our class Charity is the Canaan Trust, who help people in need and the homeless. We have raised awareness for our class charity and donated lots of food and toiletries to help those less fortunate than us.

Being prepared for school each day

Children will need their waterproof coat, a bottle filled with water, a bag for reading books and homework and a packed lunch (if required). Pencil cases and other school equipment will be provided for children by school. It is important that we limit what is being brought into school, so pencil cases and other accessories from home won’t be needed.

Break and lunch times

Children have one breaktime in the morning. For this time, they are welcome to bring a healthy snack with them to eat during break.

Our Learning

How did the Wright brothers change the world?

This half term the learning in Year 1 and 2 is all about the Wright brothers, who pioneered aviation. Our main topic focus will be all about the history of transportation; looking at old and new vehicles and the significance of what the Wright brothers achieved by using language like old, new, past, present, before and after. The three books we will be using to drive our topic are below; one being a non-fiction book to ensure the children are accessing a range of different texts.

Design and Technology

The children will also be accessing a Design and Technology workshop about vehicles with Bricks for Kidz as well as all the other exciting days we have planned to enhance knowing more and remembering more.

Wellbeing Day

Our whole school Wellbeing day takes place on the 1st March. Ask your child which workshop they chose and what they enjoyed.

World Book Day

On 8th March we celebrate World Book Day with Laura Mucha, poet and author. We are really looking forward to her workshops on poetry.

Homework

This half term, the children will be given weekly homework, Ed Shed and Times Tables Rock Stars will be on-going each week and additional tasks will be uploaded to See Saw or sent home as a paper copy. The ‘Tell me a story’ black books will be updated every 2 weeks to match the text used in school. It is expected that the children are read with three times per week at home as they are at the beginning of their reading journey.

PE

Our PE day is Thursday. The children will need a PE kit in school comprising of a white polo t shirt, blue shorts and plimsolls. The children can also wear their school PE hoodie or school fleece.  Our current PE topic is dance which is taught in the hall.
