British Values

At English Martyrs’ we pride ourselves on the breadth and balance of the school curriculum for all groups of pupils.

It is carefully planned to ensure it not only meets new national curriculum requirements in terms of the range and requirements of subjects taught, but provides our children with rich, meaningful and relevant learning experiences and to prepare them for life in modern Britain. The British values are all embedded through the teachings of the Gospels which are woven through all aspects of the curriculum and school life.

The British values include:

  • Respect for the law
  • Mutual Respect and Tolerance.
  • The values of democracy, rule of law and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different (or no) faiths and beliefs.
  • An understanding of how people can influence the decision making process through the democratic system.
  • The understanding and appreciation of different cultures in school and within Britain
  • The importance of identifying and combatting all forms of discrimination.

Respect for law and order begins as the children enter the school and respect themselves, each other, the property of the school, their place in it and that of the wider community.

Children at English Martyrs’ are encouraged to have a voice. Opportunities to vote for school and class representatives are available to the children and the opinions of all are valued and welcomed. The School Council work on a number of projects throughout the year such as, Road Safety and Playground improvement projects.
